Chon-Ji (19 movements) means literally "the heaven and the earth". It is, in the Orient, interpreted as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history, and is therefore the initial pattern played by the beginner. This pattern consists of two similar parts: one to represent heaven and the other earth.
This pattern begins with the student standing in parallel ready stance on the AB line facing in the direction of D.
Step by step
- Move the left foot to B forming a left walking stance toward B while executing a left outer forearm low block to B.
- Move the right foot to B forming a right walking stance toward B while executing a right forefist middle punch to B.
- Move the right foot to A, turning clockwise to form a right walking stance toward A while executing a right outer forearm low block to A.
- Move the left foot to A forming a left walking stance toward A while executing a left forefist middle punch to A.
- Move the left foot to D forming a left walking stance toward D while executing a left outer forearm low block to D.

END: Bring the left foot back to parallel ready stance.
Quick reference
- When turning 180 degrees, for example from movement #2 to movement #3, it's important to maintain the correct width of the stance by not putting the foot down too early and pivoting on the back foot.
- All low blocks in this pattern are performed in walking stance.
- All middle blocks in this pattern are performed in L-stance.
